Comrades Ultra Marathon Collection

Comrades Marathon is a name that is known around the world as a test of grit and a celebration of perseverance and comradery. We embrace the long road, not knowing how the day will end. One thing we know for sure is that if you fuel right, you will eliminate a number of risks that are inherent with running ultra distances.

We have designed a race collection for the Comrades Marathon with a total of 580g of carbs for the duration of your Comrades. Over and above the race day carbohydrate intake we have included products to support carbohydrate loading ahead of race day. The total carbohydrates in the Comrades Ultra Marathon Collection is 780g.

Suggested fuel plan implementation is as follows.

The thinking behind this bundle is that if you want to run a 7 hour Comrades you will need more carbs per hour as your pace per 10km increases. If you plan to run an 11 hour Comrades you will require less carbs per hour to match your pace per 10km. If you are running a 7 hour Comrades your average carbohydrate intake will be 82g per hour, a 9 hour Comrades will bring your carbohydrate intake down to 64g per hour and an 11 hour comrades will mean 52g of carbohydrates per hour. These are guidelines and will be influenced by each athletes age/weight/height and fitness.

Our fuel plan for Comrades is based on using Maurten for the entire day, with only small deviations when you feel you need something 'different'. We recommend that you alternate Caffeine and regular products so that your caffeine intake is balanced.
